Do You Drink Milk/Eat Dairy Products?

vegetarian vegan reason to avoid milkWhat could be more American than a glass of milk? Cow's milk, that is.
In light of this common perception, the time is long overdue to add the milk mustache to that ever-growing list of American myths. Human beings are not designed to drink any milk except human milk (only during infancy, of course).  Consuming dairy products—milk, cheese, yogurt, sour cream, ice cream, etc.—is not green and it's not healthy.
Milk often contains unwanted ingredients.
Under current industrial methods, cow's milk is often a toxic bovine brew of man-made ingredients like bio-engineered hormones, antibiotics (55% of U.S. antibiotics are fed to livestock), and pesticides—all of which are bad for us and the environment. For example, unintentional pesticide poisonings kill an estimated 355,000 people globally each year. In addition the drugs pumped into livestock often re-visit us in our water supply.
Cows’ milk – although heavily marketed as healthy – isn’t as desirable as the industry would like people to believe.
Scientific research into the composition and consumption of another mammal’s milk shows it contains many things which can harm our health; including hormones, growth factors, animal protein, saturated fat, cholesterol. Up to 400,000 million somatic (pus) cells are legally allowed in each litre. Dairy products have been linked to breast, bowel, ovarian and prostate cancer, diabetes, asthma, digestive issues and numerous other conditions. Scientists, nutritionists and health organizations have an increasing interest and concern about negatives effects of dairy consumption on human health.
The dairy industry's biased health claims that cow's milk contains calcium and is therefore good for us are over simplistic. Cow's milk is not a natural food for humans, we are the only mammal to consume it after infancy and to consume another animal's milk.

On top of all that, one of the best sources of calcium without all the added side effects is dark leafy green vegetables.  Organic of course!
